Physico-Chemical and In Vitro Characterization of Chitosan-Based Microspheres Intended for Nasal Administration

The absorption of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) through the nasal epithelium offers an innovative opportunity in field pain therapy. Thanks to bonding chitosan mucosa and its permeability-enhancing effect, it is excellent choice formulate microspheres for increase drug bioavailability. aim our work includes preparation spray-dried cross-linked non-cross-linked chitosan-based delivery systems intranasal application, optimization spray-drying process parameters (inlet air temperature, pump rate), composition samples. Cross-linked products were prepared by using different amounts sodium tripolyphosphate. On top these, micrometric properties, structural characteristics, vitro release, permeability studied. Spray-drying resulted micronized particles (2–4 μm) regardless parameters. meloxicam (MEL)-containing showed nearly spherical habit, while MEL was present a molecularly dispersed state. highest dissolved (>90%) permeated (~45 µg/cm2) amount detected from sample. Our results indicate that MEL-containing microparticles may be recommended development novel system decrease acute or enhance analgesia application.
